Eli Drinkwitz addresses Mizzou’s QB situation in practice after Connor Bazelak injury

A 37-28 win over Vanderbilt Saturday wasn’t without at least one rough spot for Missouri, which saw starting quarterback Connor Bazelak leave the game in the fourth quarter with what was described after as a soft-tissue injury by head coach Eli Drinkwitz.
Bazelak went 22-for-28 for 218 yards, a touchdown, and a pick in the win, but a 2nd-down hit to his hip forced him from the game with less than 7 minutes to play. He was replaced in the game by true freshman Tyler Macon, who handled the 3rd down play and took snaps on the final drive of the game over redshirt freshman Brady Cook.
Speaking with members of the media on Tuesday, Drinkwitz was careful not to give too much away regarding the situation.
Drinkwitz says he won’t know anything about QB situation until after practice today to see how Connor Bazelak responds but he won’t make any changes for Tyler Macon or Brady Cook in practice. Says both have been getting reps.

When asked if that meant Bazelak would practice on Tuesday, Drinkwitz said he wouldn’t talk about injuries until after the injury report was released on Thursday. He added later, “I have no idea about anything other than practice today. We’re talking about practice today.”
A third-year sophomore quarterback, Bazelak is having his best season to date for the Tigers. He’s completing 68.2% of his passes for 2,138 yards and 13 scores against 8 interceptions. His backups, Macon and Cook, have just 4 and 5 pass attempts on the season, respectively. His status will continue to be a major point of interest throughout the week as Missouri readies for No. 1 Georgia on Saturday.
The Tigers (4-4, 1-3 SEC) travel to Athens to battle the Bulldogs with kickoff set for noon ET on ESPN.
