Eli Drinkwitz got rather emotional talking about his quarterback after No. 19 Missouri came back to beat Auburn 21-17 on Saturday.

Brady Cook was knocked out of the game in the first half, but he would return late in the third quarter and help lead Missouri to the victory. Cook finished 11-for-22 passing for 194 yards. With Missouri already holding a conference loss, and with Alabama on deck next week, escaping Auburn with a win was a huge result for the Tigers in their quest to make the SEC title game.

“For all the criticism that young man takes, 12 sure would die on the field for everybody,” Drinkwitz said. “For him to be out there and put his body on the line for us, is incredible and ought to be inspiring to everybody that watched it today.”

Drinkwitz revealed that when Cook left the game in the first half, he briefly went to the hospital to receive an MRI. He would return in the third quarter and lead Missouri to a 21-17 win.

The Tigers outscored Auburn in the fourth quarter 15-0 to win. Cook went 7-for-15 passing in the fourth, but Missouri gained 79 yards through the air and 7 first downs. On the game-winning drive late, Cook and the offense marched 95 yards in 17 plays. Cook hit a 10-yarder to Theo Wease on third-and-10 from the Auburn 25 on the drive, and Jamal Roberts ran in the game-winning touchdown 3 plays later.

Missouri moved to 6-1 with the victory.
