Eli Drinkwitz references Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray in praise of Carson Beck
When someone mentions Matthew Stafford and Aaron Murray in the same sentence, the mind immediately shifts to their days as Georgia quarterbacks.
At Tuesday’s Missouri football press conference, coach Eli Drinkwitz sees glimmers of the legendary Bulldogs play-makers in current QB Carson Beck.
“You’d think he was playing with Matthew Stafford and Aaron Murray (on the same team),” Drinkwitz said.
Drinkwitz said that since top-ranked Georgia’s 27-20 win over Auburn about a month ago, Beck has “taken his game to a new level.”
“It’s a level confidence, which has created a level of being able to win in the (SEC) and on the road,” Drinkwitz said.
In the Bulldogs’ 43-20 win over Florida this past weekend, Beck was 19-of-28 for 315 yards and 2 touchdown passes.
“He’s very accurate with the football. He knows exactly where it’s going,” Drinkwitz said, noting that Beck gets gets the ball out in about 1.2 seconds.
So far for Georgia this season, Beck has 2,462 passing yards, 14 TDs and four interceptions.
“He doesn’t hold onto the ball which tells you how well he knows how to read coverage,” Drinkwitz said.
