Missouri has yet to hit the gas on offense consistently this season, and Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz knows it.

The Tigers barely held on for a 23-19 win over Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. Things didn’t look a lot better for the Tigers a week earlier in a 35-10 win over South Dakota where Mizzou only averaged 6.6 yards per play.

“Kirby [Moore] calls the plays,” Drinkwitz told reporters about his offensive coordinator on Tuesday. “Obviously, when it comes to in between series, making suggestions, we all have an open traffic and talk through what we’re seeing and then what do we have to improve, [and] how can we attack them.”

“I think we just have to gain more confidence in our process and what we’re doing and cut it loose,” Drinkwitz added.

Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook showed potential of taking a step forward from his 2022 season. Cook has a better passing  rating, 181.2, and yards per pass, 9.4 yards, this year.

Cook and company faced a daunting challenge for cutting it loose when the No. 15-ranked Kansas State Wildcats (2-0) come to Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday. K-State’s yielded 256 yards per game to start the season, but the Wildcats limited opponents to 13 points between those 2 wins.
