Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers were expected to record a dominant victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores, but that is hardly what happened as they escaped a double-overtime upset. Mizzou came out on the right side of the affair with a 30-27 victory.
Drinkwitz, who has been criticized for his play-calling and in-game decision-making on several occasions throughout the past couple of seasons, put much of them blame on himself.
He gave the credit for the win to the fan base, which did not waver as the Tigers struggled against a team they were expected to beat by multiple scores.
“Totally my fault,” Drinkwitz said of the decisions he made toward the end of the first half. “That was a really haphazard decision by me and the team bailed me out. I’ve got to be much better. Should have never done that.”
He also said the team’s record was not indicative of where the Tigers are from a performance standpoint.
“We’re 4-0, so we are as good as we can record wise. But nowhere near as good as we can be playing wise.”
Looking ahead to the next matchup on the schedule against Texas A&M, he mentioned playing better in the red zone, tackling and third down as areas to improve in.
“We have to take a good look at the Missouri Tigers.”
