Eli Holstein and the undefeated Pitt Panthers have a massive showdown against SMU in Week 10. Ahead of that matchup, however, the status of Holstein looms large.

Holstein exited late in a blowout win over Syracuse in Week 9 with an undisclosed injury. Earlier this week, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi left it up in the air whether the former Alabama quarterback would be good to go in Week 10.

On Wednesday, however, the coach confirmed that the starting QB will indeed play vs. SMU.

Holstein has been impressive in 2024 with the Panthers. The QB has thrown for 1,805 yards with 17 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The redshirt freshman has also rushed 286 yards and 3 TDs.

The QB transferred to Pitt after redshirting at Alabama in 2023. Holstein’s arrival at Pitt has led to the team starting 7-0 in 2024 and boasting the No. 25 passing offense in the nation. In 2023, the Panthers had the No. 77 passing attack, showing the difference Holstein has made.

The Panthers have picked up conference wins over North Carolina, California, and Syracuse. SMU will be a tough test, however, as the Mustangs enter Week 10 with a 7-1 record overall and a 4-0 mark in conference play.

Miami and Clemson are the only other ACC teams that remain undefeated. With a win in Week 10, the Panthers keep not only their ACC Championship hopes alive, but College Football Playoff hopes as well.

The No. 18 Panthers and No. 20 Mustangs will kick off from Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
