David Tyree didn’t need to use his helmet for this catch. The former New York Giants receiver was able to haul in a pass from Eli Manning as part of a ceremony to celebrate the former Ole Miss’ quarterback.
Manning was inducted into the Giants Ring of Honor and had his No. 10 jersey retired during halftime of Sunday’s game between the Giants and the Atlanta Falcons.
Manning had a 16-year career with the Giants. He started 246 regular season and playoff games set multiple franchise records and won two Super Bowls in which he was named MVP. Manning retired following the 2019 season.
One of those MVP trophies would belong to someone else had Tyree not used his helmet to haul in a one of most improbable reception in Super Bowl history. The catch converted a key third-down against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The Giants upset the Pats 17-14.
