A top 2017 recruit is getting closer to making a decision about where he’ll play in college.

WR Devonta Smith, a five-star prospect from Amite, Louisiana, recently narrowed his list to his top four schools and will make a decision on Aug. 15, according to a nola.com article:

“I’m basically down to four schools,” Smith said. “Mississippi State, Miami, Nebraska and Alabama. All of those schools have a lot to offer me, and have done a good job recruiting me.”

Smith said he’s interested in Alabama because the Tide always seem to be playing in big games:

“They are always playing for National Championships. The coaching staff is great, not too far from home and they were on me early and never let up.”

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound athlete also praised Mississippi State’s coaching staff:

“They are close to home, coach (Billy) Gonzalez has been staying in touch with me almost everyday. He has shown they have a lot of interest in me. Coach Knox is like a father figure, too.”

Noticeably absent from the Louisiana player’s list is LSU, but Smith said he didn’t think the Tigers’ offense was a good fit for him.

247sports.com has Smith ranked as the No. 10 wide receiver in the class of 2017 and the No. 2 recruit from the state of Louisiana.
