Devonta Smith, the No. 10-ranked receiver in the country for the class of 2017 according to 247 Sports, revealed a top-four just three weeks ago. That list included Mississippi State, Miami (FL), Nebraska and Alabama.
Three weeks later, things have changed. Smith took to Twitter last night to unleash a top-three, which cut two teams from his old list and saw a new school enter the fold.
I will be changing my decision list…
Miami?
LSU?
Alabama?@Beast1Athletics— DeVonta Smith (@DeVontaSmith_6) July 24, 2016
Gone from Smith’s old list are Mississippi State and Nebraska, while LSU joined the mix. Here’s what the four-star receiver said about the Tigers back when the school didn’t crack his top-four.
“I have a lot of respect for the coaches and the LSU program, but their offense just doesn’t suit me well,” said Smith in a nola.com article. “Coach Craig and Orgeron did a great job recruiting me, but it’s just not the right fit.”
Again, things change. Smith’s top-three now features two of the Southeastern Conference’s powers, while Miami (FL)’s new head coach is a familiar name around the SEC, in Mark Richt.
Smith, a 6-foot-1 receiver from Amite, La., is the No. 63-ranked player in the country regardless of position according to 247 Sports’ Composite rankings. His 40-yard dash is clocked at 4.49 seconds and according to 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball Predictions, he has a 100 percent chance of joining the Crimson Tide.
Here’s a look at what the difference-maker can do on the field.
