ESPN FPI Rankings after Week 4: Tennessee falls despite convincing win at Oklahoma

ESPN’s FPI rankings have been updated after Week 4 action, and the results were certainly interesting.
The top 3 remained the same, with Texas, Alabama and Ohio State holding down those spots. The conversation starts at the No. 4 spot.
Despite going into Norman on Saturday night and earning a 25-15 victory over the Sooners, Tennessee fell from the No. 4 spot to No. 5. The team that jumped the Vols? Georgia. The Bulldogs, however, were idle on Saturday.
Here’s a look at the top 25 of the updated ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) rankings following Week 4 in the college football world:
- Texas
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Georgia
- Tennessee
- Ole Miss
- Miami
- Penn State
- Notre Dame
- Oregon
- Louisville
- USC
- Mizzou
- Clemson
- Indiana
- UCF
- Oklahoma
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- Michigan
- Oklahoma State
- Utah
- Arkansas
- Iowa
- Iowa State
Oklahoma dropped 3 spots following Saturday’s loss to the Vols. It just seems strange that Tennessee also fell a spot higher in the rankings.
All in all, a total of 10 SEC teams made the top 25, with 6 landing in the top 10. The only SEC squads not to make the top 25 were South Carolina (29), Auburn (34), Kentucky (38), Florida (39), Vanderbilt (54) and Mississippi State (72).
The Week 5 slate is limited in the SEC, with a few teams having the week off. We’ll see what happens in the FPI rankings this time next weekend.
