The college football world is rapidly changing in the era of conference realignment and the SEC is very much among those that will be impacted, with Texas and Oklahoma set to join in 2025. With that will obviously come some changes to games and what the season as we’ve known it looks like.
Chris Low of ESPN reported on Saturday that he has heard from multiple athletic directors and coaches that they “would prefer to go to nine league games and play a 3-6 format” when the Longhorns and the Sooners officially become members.
He placed emphasis on Texas A&M, reporting that Aggies athletic director Ross Bjork told him that “added revenue and being able to play more rivals make it a no-brainer.”
This is a reasonable approach from a money and opponent scheduling perspective that has clearly garnered a decent amount of support and if it continues to do so, could wind up being the case when the 2025 season rolls around and changes are officially made.
How these conversations continue to evolve will be something to keep an eye on as the shifting continues.
Hearing from more ADs and coaches in the SEC that they’d prefer to go to nine league games and play a 3-6 format when OU and Texas join. They’re certainly onboard at @AggieFootball. AD Ross Bjork told me the added revenue and being able to play more rivals make it a no-brainer.
