We are now four weeks into the college football season and the Heisman Trophy race has really started to heat up.
Quarterbacks have won the Heisman seven out of the last eight years, and it looks like that trend will continue.
Kyler Murray, Will Grier, Dwayne Haskins and Tua Tagovailoa have been tearing it up for their respective teams, and all four are undefeated so far in 2018.
According to ESPN’s updated Heisman Watch list, there’s a new No. 1 atop the list entering Week 5 however, and that’s Tagovailoa.
The true sophomore put up 387 yards and four touchdowns in Alabama’s 45-23 rout of Texas A&M on Saturday, and ESPN is starting to realize that he is truly the Heisman favorite this season.
Even though his team has had to ease up on defenses at the end of games due to the score, Tagovailoa has still thrown for 12 touchdowns and maintained a quarterback rating of 97.8.
The player he passed in the standings was Murray, whose Sooners escaped Army in Week 4 with a 28-21 win in overtime. The junior still put up 165 yards and three touchdowns with an interception, but Oklahoma was projected to blow out Army, and the close game led to his drop in the rankings.
