ESPN updates its Football Power Index (FPI) rankings after every week of college football. Yes, there are still 2 games to be played (USC-LSU and Boston College-Florida State) before Week 1 is officially over, but the rankings have been updated.

Alabama was the big winner among top teams after its 63-0 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday night, jumping 3 spots to No. 2, behind only Georgia.

The top 10 was, unsurprisingly, dominated by SEC and Big Ten teams. The SEC placed 6 teams in the top 10, while the B1G had 3. Notre Dame was the other top-10 squad, checking in at No. 6 after a win at Texas A&M on Saturday night.

Here’s a look at the current top 25:

  1. Georgia
  2. Alabama
  3. Texas
  4. Ohio State
  5. Penn State
  6. Notre Dame
  7. Tennessee
  8. Ole Miss
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Oregon
  11. Miami
  12. Mizzou
  13. Louisville
  14. LSU
  15. Michigan
  16. Auburn
  17. Florida State
  18. Texas A&M
  19. USC
  20. Kansas
  21. UCF
  22. Kansas State
  23. Clemson
  24. Arizona
  25. Utah

An impressive 10 SEC squads are in the top 25. The Big Ten only has 5 teams in the top 25, as it falls off a bit after the top tier of teams.

These rankings will change on a weekly basis, so check back in next week to see if Georgia continues to hold on to its No. 1 spot for the foreseeable future!
