ESPN updated its projected College Football Playoff rankings following Week 12 action, and things look at little bit different.
One of the most major storylines was No. 1 Oregon just barely squeezing by the unranked Wisconsin Badgers, 16-13 on Saturday.
The other big topic was Georgia, which head coach Kirby Smart himself had noted had been all but written off after its loss to Ole Miss, downing Texas 31-17 after a somewhat slow start but overall complete game as quarterback Carson Beck put on his best performance of the season. Some may have even called it the best performance of his career as the signal-caller completed 25 of his 40 passing attempts for 347 yards with 2 touchdowns.
Here’s a look at the complete ESPN’s updated College Football Playoff projection as of Sunday:
- Oregon
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Penn State
- Indiana
- Notre Dame
- Miami
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- Georgia
- Tennessee
- Boise State
It’s important to note that the above projection is for the rankings themselves, and not what the final bracket would look like. In this scenario, Tennessee would be left out of the CFP despite being ranked 11th because No. 12 Boise State and the Big 12 champion would both receive automatic berths.
How these develop down the final stretch of the season will be something to keep an eye on. The College Football Playoff selection committee will share updated rankings on Tuesday night.
