ESPN’s FPI predicts outcome of Texas-Oklahoma Red River Rivalry showdown

ESPN’s FPI gives the No. 1 Texas Longhorns an 85% chance of defeating No. 18 Oklahoma moving into what’s expected to be yet another exciting slate of games in Week 7 of the 2024 college football season.
The Longhorns last played in Week 5, nothing a 35-13 win over Mississippi State to remain undefeated with a strong probability of finishing out the season with a pristine record as they look to make it to the national stage. Texas fell just short last season when it lost to the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff semifinals, 37-31 in the Sugar.
Oklahoma has not had nearly the type of “welcome to the SEC year” that Texas has had, currently sitting with an overall record of 4-1 that probably makes the team look better than it actually is, especially after the scare it escaped against a lowly Houston Cougars team earlier this season.
The Sooners come into this matchup as a heavy underdog, most recently defeating the Auburn Tigers, 27-21, on The Plains on Sept. 28.
Texas has the better overall team in just about every capacity possible, so an entirely outmatched Oklahoma team pulling an upset looks highly improbable.
It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the in-conference contest as Texas and Oklahoma are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in the Red River Rivalry showdown from the Cotton Bowl.
