ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of Florida-Tulane game in Gasparilla Bowl
ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the outcome of each college football game ahead of every weekend. The regular season is now behind us and the model has updated its predictions for bowl season.
The Tulane Green Wave and Florida Gators are facing off in the Gasparilla Bowl. For this matchup, the model sees Florida as a slight favorite, giving the team a 54.2% chance to win the game. The Green Wave are getting a 45.8% chance to win, meaning the model sees this game as almost a coin flip.
The Green Wave ended their regular season with a 9-4 record after falling to Army in the AAC Championship Game. The Gators, meanwhile, ended with a 7-5 record and knocked off in-state rival Florida State in the finale.
Both of these teams had encouraging seasons in 2024. For the Green Wave, it was their first season with Jon Sumrall as the head coach. What was expected to be a down year ended up with the team earning a spot in the conference championship game. The Gators, meanwhile, earned bowl eligibility even with one of the nation’s toughest schedules.
Tulane has the edge on offense and defense in this matchup. The Green Wave are No. 41 in total offense while the Gators are No. 81 in the category. In total defense, the Green Wave rank No. 13 while the Gators rank No. 91.
This game will kick off from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL on Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
