ESPN’s FPI has been making predictions all throughout the 2024 college football season, and that hasn’t changed as the College Football Playoff got underway this weekend,

The predictions will continue into the CFP quarterfinals as No. 5 Texas will be taking on No. 4 Arizona State after the 38-24 win against Clemson on Saturday.

Even though Arizona State is the higher seed in the CFP, Texas is looked at as the team that is expected to win. ESPN’s FPI is giving the Longhorns just under an 80% chance to win this game, leaving the Sun Devils with only a 20.4% chance.

The quarterfinal matchup will take place on New Year’s Day at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN in Atlanta.

After giving up a touchdown on Clemson’s first drive, the Longhorns held the Tigers offense to only 3 more points in the first half. Quarterback Quinn Ewers had another up-and-down game, as he finished with 202 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The interception could have been a huge play, but there was a blindside block called against Clemson that wiped off the touchdown.

The Sun Devils were picked to finish 16th in their first season in the Big 12, but the team put together a magical season that was capped off by a 45-19 victory against Iowa State in the Big 12 championship game. A big reason why Arizona State had such an amazing season was the incredible play of running back Cam Skattebo. He finished the season with 1,568 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Oregon and Ohio State matchup.
