ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of Week 8’s SEC West showdown between Ole Miss and LSU
Can Hotty Toddy remain hot?
No. 7 Ole Miss continues to fly under the radar as one of college football’s top contenders for the 2022 season. Sitting at 7-0, the Rebels will have a chance to run the table before facing No. 6 Alabama on Nov. 12 for what likely could decide the winner of the SEC West.
Before that, Ole Miss’ attention must turn toward a bout in the bayou against LSU. And those running the numbers aren’t too keen on the Rebels remaining undefeated following Week 8.
ESPN’s FPI predicts each game’s outcome and has Ole Miss falling in Death Valley to the Tigers. The metric gives LSU a 51.3% chance of picking up the win and improving to 6-2 under 1st-year coach Brian Kelly.
Ole Miss’ best win on the season came in Week 5 against then-No. 7 Kentucky. Since the 22-19 victory in Oxford, the Rebels have cruised through SEC play, picking up back-to-back wins over Vanderbilt and Auburn.
LSU struggled against Tennessee in Week 6 at home but rebounded in “The Swamp” against Florida a week later. Quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 349 yards and 3 touchdowns while Josh Williams totaled 106 rushing yards off 14 carries.
Should the Rebels win, they would need to defeat Texas A&M in College Station to remain undefeated before facing off against the Tide at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium come early November. Should LSU pick up the victory, it would enter its bye week with a chance to be ranked before playing host to Alabama on Nov. 5.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on CBS at Tigers Stadium.
