ESPN’s Football Power Index gave its take on who will come out on top in this weekend’s pivotal matchup between LSU and Texas A&M in College Station, with the FPI giving the Aggies a narrow 52.7% chance to win.
The nation largely forgot about Mike Elko’s Texas A&M squad following its Week 1 loss to Notre Dame, but the team has quietly been one of the most consistent and dominant units in recent weeks. The Aggies have rolled to wins over Florida, Arkansas, then-No. 9 Missouri and most recently Mississippi State. Connor Weigman has returned from injury and is playing well, but the ground attack has stolen the show behind the legs of Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels and Elko’s defense has proven to be salty.
LSU has experienced a similar pathway during its season. An opening-week loss to USC put a damper on the program’s expectations, but after pulling wins over South Carolina and Ole Miss out of the fire, the conference title hopes for Brian Kelly’s team got a boost. Then, the Tigers impressed in a 34-10 road win over an Arkansas team that had just beaten Tennessee and was coming off a bye week. Garrett Nussmeier continues to spearhead a balanced offensive attack, and the LSU defense appears to be improving with each week.
The Tigers and Aggies kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
