ESPN’s FPI updates odds for each SEC team to reach College Football Playoff
The new ESPN FPI odds were updated on Monday, showing each SEC team’s chances of making the College Football Playoff.
Not surprisingly, based on what we know from the season’s 1st 2 weeks, Texas has made a giant leap. The 2nd-ranked Longhorns might be ranked behind top-ranked Georgia in the newest AP Poll. But the ESPN FPI has Texas with the best shot at reaching the CFP, giving the Longhorns a 90.2% chance to be in the inaugural 12-team Playoff.
Texas made quite the impression on the nation and on the ESPN FPI after its 31-12 demolition of defending national champion Michigan last Saturday in Ann Arbor.
Also not surprisingly, Georgia was rated 2nd by the ESPN FPI with an 83.7% chance to reach the Playoff and play for its 3rd national title in 4 seasons.
It’s also no shock that 4th-ranked Alabama was 3rd on ESPN’s list with a 79.4% chance to make the Playoff. Tennessee (65.3%) and Ole Miss (60.7%) were 4th and 5th, respectively, followed by Missouri (40.4%).
After that came a big drop-off, with Oklahoma getting only a 14.5% shot to make the CFP despite being ranked 15th in the latest AP Poll, followed by South Carolina (6.5%), Texas A&M (5.5%), LSU (5.0%), Arkansas (2.9%), Auburn (2.6%), Vanderbilt (1.7%), Mississippi State (0.8%), Florida (0.4%) and Kentucky (0.4%).
