This commitment change came after former Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm left the school for Louisville. Fields was expected to commit to Purdue, but he changed his mind in the final days before the signing period goes into effect in December.

Fields announced his change of heart in a Twitter post on Friday. In his statement, he updated his commitment decision.
“After a great official visit at Ole Miss this week, I have decided to commit and will be signing on Wednesday,” Fields said. “I am super excited about all of the opportunities that exist there. I want to thank Coach Kiffin, Coach Garrison, Coach Biagi, and the entire staff for hosting us this week.”
Fields will no longer be playing in the Big Ten and will be an SEC offensive lineman. Fields is a 3-star interior offensive lineman and is the No. 41 ranked recruit in Louisiana, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the No. 78 ranked interior offensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class.
Ultimately, Fields picked Ole Miss over Purdue, Georgia Tech, Indiana, and Louisville. Here is a highlight package for Fields:
The early signing period will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
