Coming into the 2017 season, Florida coach Jim McElwain seemed to be one of the safest coaches in the entire SEC.

How quickly things change. On Sunday morning, he reportedly became the first SEC coach to be fired, parting ways with the Gators after a brutal 42-7 loss to Georgia on Saturday afternoon.

Naturally, media members and fans alike were surprised by the news, though rumors had been swirling for a couple of days.

Here’s what everyone had to say about Florida’s decision to get rid of McElwain:

Florida will now search for a new head coach, if indeed the news of McElwain’s departure is confirmed soon.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Gators do and who they interview in the coming months.
