The College Football Playoff committee opted to rank Georgia No. 2 in its first edition of the 2023 CFP rankings. The Bulldogs have resided as No. 1 in the AP Poll for the entirety of this season, but the playoff committee did not see it the same way as the media has this season.
Ohio State slid into the top spot of the rankings thanks to its wins over Notre Dame and Penn State. Michigan and Florida State rounded out the top 4.
Georgia will host No. 12 Missouri (7-1, 4-1) on Saturday at 3:30 EST on CBS. The matchup between the Bulldogs and Tigers will carry plenty of national playoff implications, but it also may determine who represents the SEC East in the SEC Championship Game this year.
Here’s what fans and media members are saying on social media:
.@CFBPlayoff selection committee rational for its top 4:
1-Ohio State (2 Top 25 wins, best resume)
2-Georgia (eye test, no Top 25 wins)
3-Michigan (eye test, no Top 25 wins)
4-FSU (1 Top 25 win, but it happened in season opener, we already forgot about it)— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) October 31, 2023

Georgia Bulldogs No. 2 in first CFP Rankings. 25 straight wins including over current No. 1 Ohio State in 2022 Semifinals. Kirby thanks you for playing the “no respect” card for his team. See ya’ in the National Championship Game…again pic.twitter.com/df6i0sU2A0

I get why the CFP committee put Ohio State #1 but I’m fairly certain Michigan and Georgia would still be favored on a neutral field against the Buckeyes
Thankfully this should work itself out over the next month

Georgia not ranked #1 I’m the initial CFP really don’t matter but man I feel sorry for what’s about to happen these next couple weeks. Mizzou it was a good ride but you’re next #GoDawgs

As a Buckeye: what the heck is wrong with the CFP Committee?? Ohio State has no right to be ahead of Georgia and Michigan.
This is only my opinion of course, but… https://t.co/VlPyUOWfDY

Yeah CFP Committee messed up on this one. If y’all don’t want to put Georgia at 1 then put Michigan at 1 Ohio St should be 3. If y’all putting it in the “strength of schedule” aspect then I understand. But Georgia is undefeated since the SEC Championship game against Alabama.
