Father of No. 1-ranked QB Justin Fields explains appeals of Georgia, Auburn

Dual-threat, 5-star quarterback Justin Fields is the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2018.
A Kennesaw, Ga., native, Fields has some interest in a couple of SEC schools, including Auburn and Georgia.
“A lot of times, the way a school ranks nationally does not necessarily mean the thing he wants to major in that they rank badly in that,” Ivant noted. “For instance, Auburn has this entrepreneur major that he really, really likes.”
That could be good news for Tiger fans, but he’s also got family ties with the Dawgs.
“Georgia is great,” Ivant said. “They are here. Of course, my wife would love for the kids to be together. My daughter is already committed there for softball. Having them at one school would be pretty easy on the family. That is not the ultimate decision maker, but it would be convenient.”
Perhaps the strongest factor, however, lies outside the SEC. Ivant noted that his son would be attending the Alabama-Florida State game on Sept. 2 – and he could end up making a decision as soon as Sept. 3.
“You cannot deny their (FSU’s) development,” Ivant said. “Coach Fisher is a quarterback guru. Three first round picks with the last three starting quarterbacks. That is a big pro with Florida State. They kind of jumped on him late, so he is still developing relationships there, but it is undeniable – they can develop a quarterback.”
