First Responder Bowl canceled after lengthy lightning delay

Bowl season is often touted as being unpredictable, but there’s no way anyone thought the First Responder Bowl would end like this.

The game was canceled and ruled a no-contest after a lightning delay that lasted about 90 minutes.

Both teams had just two drives each when play was halted, with Boston College leading No. 25 Boise State 7-0. About five minutes remained in the first quarter, and the Broncos were set to take over after forcing a punt.

Fans who traveled to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas surely aren’t happy the game got canceled, and the players — especially seniors — can’t feel much better. The cancellation also leaves a void in the bowl schedule until Georgia Tech and Minnesota kick off the Quick Lane Bowl at 5:15 ET.
