Five-star Alabama native Clay Webb, the nation’s top center prospect, commits to Georgia over Alabama, Clemson

Kirby Smart may not have learned how to beat Nick Saban on the field just yet but the former Alabama assistant and Georgia head coach continues to show he can beat his former boss on the recruiting trail. If the Bulldogs continue to do so under Smart, the wins on the field over Alabama will eventually transpire.
Georgia’s latest victory over Alabama on the recruiting trail is a big one, literally and figuratively, as five-star Clay Webb, the nation’s top center prospect, has committed to Smart’s program leading up to the early signing period.
Webb announced his decision during a ceremony from Oxford High School on Monday morning.
Making this pill all the more difficult to swallow for Saban is the fact that Webb hails from Oxford, Ala. Webb was long thought to be destined to play for Alabama, Auburn or Clemson, but in the end, it was the Bulldogs and ace offensive line recruiter Sam Pittman that won out for Webb’s recruitment.
The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Webb is rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports Composite Rankings and is listed as the No. 1 center prospect in the nation. He’s the No. 22 overall prospect in the country, too. Webb is expected to sign during the early signing period and plans to be an early enrollee in Athens. He has been selected to participate in the 2019 Under Armour All-American Game before beginning his college career.
Following Webb’s commitment, Georgia now holds 19 total commitments for the 2019 recruiting cycle, which includes four five-star prospects. This commitment also jumps the Bulldogs over Texas A&M for the nation’s No. 2-rated recruiting class, with 0nly Alabama currently rated higher than Georgia.
