Alabama and Auburn will face each other on the football field on Nov. 28. But right now, they are battling for a highly-touted recruit.
The Crimson Tide and the Tigers are two of the teams in five-star linebacker Markail Benton’s top three.
Benton, a junior at Central High School in Phenix City, Ala., is the No. 2 linebacker in the Class of 2017 and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports.
He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Alabama, Auburn and Florida State are his top three schools right now, but did not list a favorite.
Two of Benton’s high school teammates are four-star cornerback John Broussard, who has verbally committed to Auburn, and three-star linebacker Jamal Couch, who plans to play for Florida State. Broussard and Couch are both seniors.
