Five-star LB Baron Browning has been interested in Alabama since he announced his top-10 list back in April.
The No. 8 overall recruit in the class of 2017, Browning also listed LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, UCLA and USC in his top 10, according to AL.com.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Kennedale, Texas, has been participating in The Opening recruiting showcase in Oregon, where he announced that he’ll make his college decision on Nov. 29 — his dad’s birthday.
He’ll make an official visit to Alabama the weekend before — Nov. 26 — to see the Crimson Tide take on Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl game.
Though other top schools are still in the mix for Browning, the AL.com article noted that Browning has had plenty of contact with Alabama coaches during the recruiting process:
“I talk to (outside linebackers) Coach (Tosh) Lupoi all the time,” Browning said. “I always talk with (commits) VanDarius Cowan and Alex Leatherwood. They are also on me hard recruiting me. I’ve got nothing but love for Alabama.”
The prospect of immediate playing time is appealing to Browning:
“I know Coach (Tosh) Lupoi wants to use me as an outside linebacker role,” Browning said. “I know both of their starting guys are going to be gone after the season so the position’s going to be wide open so they want me to come play that role. Of course those accolades they have in football, but it’s hard for me to go in depth with them since I haven’t been since last summer.”
Though his announcement date is still more than four months away, Alabama fans (and LSU fans, for that matter) will likely be watching Browning’s every move.
