Florida defeated Arkansas on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville to pick up a crucial SEC road win.
The Gators won 71-63, moving to 2-1 in conference play with the result. Their only loss so far this season came against Kentucky on the road last Saturday.
Alijah Martin led all Florida players in scoring with 14 points, but 3 other Gators were not far behind with a dozen apiece: Walter Clayton Jr., Will Richard and Alex Condon. Overall, it was a very balanced offensive effort from the Gators.
Defensively, though, is where Florida stood out in this game. UF held Arkansas to 18-of-60 shooting from the floor — good for just 30%. Arkansas was as close as it was in this game largely because it made 24 free throws (on a whopping 35 attempts).
This is a significant early-season victory for Florida as it works toward its goal of competing for the SEC title. The Gators are a top-5 team nationally this season according to KenPom, but winning the league’s SEC regular-season title will require consistent performances both at home and on the road.
Florida will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts Mizzou.
