Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson has revealed to SI.com that he will declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.
“I feel like it’s in my best interest to declare for the NFL draft this year,” Wilson said Tuesday. “I’m definitely excited. It’s something I dreamed about since I was five or six years old, to play in the NFL.”
In three seasons with the Gators, Wilson (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) tallied 81 tackles (4.5 for loss), six interceptions, 14 pass deflections and a forced fumble.
According to Bleacher Report NFL Draft Lead Writer Matt Miller, Wilson is the top cornerback available in the 2017 draft class and can be expected to be taken in the first round.
In his latest mock draft, Miller has the Tennessee Titans selecting Wilson at No. 18 overall.
“He’s big, long and a playmaker on the edge,” wrote Miller. “His ability to win with his hands at the line of scrimmage or beat wide receivers with speed and quick transitions in off coverage make Wilson a special cornerback talent. For comparison, he would have been CB2 last year behind Jalen Ramsey.
“With a strong group of young cornerbacks but no true No. 1 on the roster, Wilson walks in and will be asked to play the shutdown corner in Tennessee. The good news is he’s perfectly suited for it.”
Between Wilson and Jalen “Teez” Tabor at corner, Florida finished with the No. 2 pass defense in the nation this season, allowing just 148.5 yards per game and an FBS-best 92.86 opponent passer rating.
