Florida completed a massive recruiting heist on Sunday. The Gators completed a flip of prized in-state quarterback prospect Tramell Jones Jr., who most recently was committed to Florida State.
Jones is a 4-star prospect and is rated as the No. 21 QB and the No. 36 prospect out of Florida in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite ranking. Jones had been committed to Florida State since April 2023.
“ONLY GATORS GET OUT ALIVE,” said the prospect in his announcement.

The QB currently stars for Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL. In 2023, the talented prospect led Mandarin to an 11-4 record while completing 60.6% of his passes for 3,195 yards with 33 TDs and 7 INTs. Jones became the 1st player to throw for 3,000+ yards in the Gateway Conference since Carson Beck in 2018.
Jones de-committed from struggling Florida State last Thursday. The QB was in attendance for Florida’s big victory over LSU in Week 12 before announcing his flip on Sunday. Miami, UCF, and Louisville were among other teams that had an interest in the dynamic QB prospect.
The addition of Jones is huge for Florida’s 2025 class. The team currently has the No. 33 class in the country, with 1 5-star commit and now 6 4-star prospects. Jones is the first QB to commit to the Gators in 2025.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Gators, but the team needs just 1 win in their final 2 games to secure bowl eligibility.
