Picked to finish as the SEC East Division’s 5th-best team prior to the start of the 2015 season, Florida overachieved expectations in Year 1 under coach Jim McElwain by posting a 10-4 (7-1) record with an appearance in the conference championship game.
That has awarded McElwain a substantial raise.
According to AP sports writer Mark Long, Florida has announced a $750,000 raise for McElwain effective immediately, increasing his annual salary from $3.5 million to $4.25 million.

McElwain is now the highest-paid coach in the East division, but still sits behind Alabama’s Nick Saban ($7 million annually), Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin ($5 million), Mississippi’s Hugh Freeze ($4.7 million), LSU’s Les Miles ($4.39 million) and Auburn’s Gus Malzahn ($4.35 million).
McElwain remains under contract through the 2020 season.
