Florida legend Emmitt Smith had a busy day on Saturday in Gainesville.

The NFL’s all-time leading rusher was the celebrity guest picker for ESPN’s “College GameDay.” Smith also accompanied his son, 2020 4-star all-purpose back EJ Smith, on his official recruiting visit to UF.

GameDay host Rece Davis joked that Florida might ask Smith to suit up and fix their running game issues, but it turned out Lamical Perine was able to deliver when the Gators needed a big play on the ground. Perine’s 88-yard touchdown run to seal the deal was the longest rushing play by a UF player since Smith recorded a 96-yard TD run in 1988, per the SEC Network.

After Smith’s alma mater downed Auburn 24-13 in The Swamp, a game he correctly picked on GameDay, the Pro Football Hall of Famer delivered a fiery postgame locker room speech to Dan Mullen’s squad.

In the video below, Smith stresses the difference between being “average” and “great,” telling the team to stay hungry for the Week 7 showdown at LSU as the Gators “gotta go down to Death Valley and kick their ass.”
