Florida players find out about Jim McElwain’s firing just like everyone else, via social media

Florida parted ways with coach Jim McElwain on Sunday afternoon, and though it wasn’t exactly a surprise, it was still a crazy event.

A players’ meeting was reportedly called, but the news leaked on social media before the meeting had a chance to take place.

Therefore, in today’s fast-paced world of news, the Florida players found out about McElwain’s departure just like the rest of us — on Twitter.

Florida QB Jake Allen, an important member of the Gators’ 2017 recruiting class, sent out a tweet expressing surprise that he and his teammates had to find out via social media:

The players will likely find out a lot more about the details behind the decision at their meeting, which McElwain himself is supposed to be at:

Coming off back-to-back SEC East titles, Mac fell from grace quickly. However, it’s clear the Florida administration felt it was time to move on.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens next in Gainesville.
