Florida and LSU were locked in a Saturday evening affair in Baton Rouge that remained close for much of the game. However, a dominant run late in the 2nd half allowed the Gators to put the finishing touches on a 79-65 win to boost their winning streak to 6 games.
Entering halftime, it was actually LSU with a 37-31 lead over Florida, the No. 2 team in the country. The offense for the Gators was especially stagnant while shooting 32.4% from the floor and just 4-for-14 from 3-point range before the break.
The good news is things were night and day different in the 2nd half. Florida shot 55.6% overall after halftime, including 3-for-8 from deep. The defense also woke up while holding the Tigers below 40% shooting from the floor after the break.
Just inside the 6-minute to play, this one still remained close with LSU pulling within 63-59. However, that’s as close as the Tigers would get. Florida rattled off a 14-0 run across the next 3+ minutes to build a lead of 18 points with multiple players contributing.
Rueben Chinyelu led 5 Gators in double figures with 19 points, including 13 rebounds for a double-double. Thomas Haugh also delivered a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 7-for-9 from the floor.
With the win, Florida is now 11-3 in SEC play this season, staying 2 games behind Auburn who beat Georgia earlier in the day. That still makes it a tough task to try and run down the Tigers in the standings, though it is important to remember Florida holds a head-to-head tie-breaker due to the win over Auburn.
Florida also maintains a tough schedule to finish the year with matchups at Georgia, vs. Texas A&M, at Alabama and vs. Ole Miss to end the year. Be sure to use the best betting apps to track all the odds to end the regular season and into the SEC Tournament.
