Florida will promote Russ Callaway to be its offensive coordinator in 2025, according to a report.

That’s per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports. Zenitz notes that Callaway joined the Florida staff in 2022 and has now been promoted 3 straight years.

This coming fall, he’ll have his biggest responsibility toward the Gators’ success yet. Callaway figures to have an even bigger effect on Florida’s offense and game-planning than he has in his previous years in Gainesville.

However, this does not mean that Callaway will be calling the plays for quarterback DJ Lagway and the Gators offensive unit in 2025. That responsibility will apparently still fall on head coach Billy Napier, per Zenitz.

Still, Thursday night’s announcement regarding the 2025 season continues Callaway’s ascent up the Gators’ coaching ladder. Callaway has now progressed from analyst to tight ends coach to co-offensive coordinator before the reported promotion to OC.

Prior to his time in Gainesville, Callaway worked in the NFL for the New York Giants. His previous collegiate stops included SEC rival LSU as well as Samford, where Callaway helped the program lead the FCS in passing yards.

Now, in the fall of 2025, Callaway will try to help the budding star Lagway and the UF offense reach the same great heights in the FBS.
