Florida State flips FIU OL commit Sandman Thompson for late addition to 2025 class
Florida State completed a flip of a talented in-state offensive lineman on Wednesday.
Sandman Thompson, who had been committed to Florida International, is now committed to the Seminoles. The prospect committed to FIU at the beginning of January but just 2 weeks later is reversing course.
Thompson stars for Cocoa High School in Cocoa, FL. The 247Sports Composite ranking rates Thompson as a 3-star recruit, the No. 73 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 141 prospect out of Florida in the 2025 class.
The prospect has experience at both guard positions and center. Thompson also wrestles and was a district champion as a sophomore.
Originally, Thompson committed to Oregon back in May 2023. The commitment lasted for just over a year before the lineman decommitted in April 2024. Thomspon ended up choosing FIU before flipping to the Seminoles. The Seminoles were the first team Thompson visited, all the way back in 2022.
Florida State now has the No. 20 class in the nation for 2025. The class is headlined by 12 4-stars and 9 3-stars. Thompson becomes the 22nd player to sign on with the Noles in this class and the 3rd interior OL to do so. Joining Thompson on the interior are prospects Sean Poret and Mario Nash Jr.
In 2024, the Noles had one of the worst offensive lines in the nation. The unit ranked No. 132 out of 134 in sacks allowed and the rushing offense finished No. 129. In addition to the 2025 class, the team also brought in 4 offensive linemen via the transfer portal.
The loss of Thompson stings for the Panthers, who have the No. 103 class.
