Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher has a vote in the preseason coaches’ poll, and he evidently used it to cast Alabama No. 1.

In an interview with SportsCenter on Monday, Fisher confirmed that he thought the Crimson Tide deserved the top ranking.

When asked what will be on the line when his third-ranked Seminoles battle Alabama in Week 1, he had this to say:

“You know what kind of football team you’re going to have for the rest of the season,” Fisher said. “You (will) know what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are. … You’re going to see the competitors and the guys that can handle that environment.”

Fisher also noted the rewards for the winner would be high.

“When you attain what you want to attain, you have to take risks and play these kind of games,” he added.

“You want to be up high in the rankings,” Fisher said. “People say it doesn’t matter… well it matters. But we can’t dwell on it. That’s what people think of you, and it means you have the possibility of having a good football team. We have to make it probable that we do…

“We have to go earn that spot and then keep playing up, because that’s not our goal. Our goal is to be No. 1.”
