It appears as if the Florida Gators have found their quarterback.

The insertion of Luke Del Rio at the signal-caller spot has paid-off thus far in Jim McElwain’s second season as head coach.

Last year, the Gators’ offense stagnated far too often. The inconsistency between Will Grier and Treon Harris was plainly clear, and as a result, there were some considerable lulls at times when it came to scoring points.

Not only has Del Rio been effective, but he’s also been efficient.

On the year, Del Rio is completing passes at a 63.2-percent clip. He’s also thrown six touchdowns to only one interception. Del Rio has been decisive with his throws, isn’t forcing anything unnecessary, and is in complete control as a game-manager.

In the 45-7 trouncing of Kentucky this past weekend, Del Rio went 19-of-32 for four touchdowns and 320 passing yards. He became the first Florida quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in a game since 2013, and accrued the most passing yards in a conference game dating back to Chris Leak (322) in 2004.

In essence, he’s provided Florida with a stabilizing force. If he continues to play well, the Gators will have an excellent chance at winning the SEC East.
