If you want to coach the best of the best, you come to the SEC.
And some, well most, of the SEC’s best coaches start out as position coaches before working their way up to coordinator and head coaching jobs.
There are plenty of guys out there who hardly get any media attention and are doing an excellent job with their respective position groups.
Others have already earned their way into coordinator positions.
Here are a few SEC coaches who are ready to move up, according to a recent article from Football Scoop. Some of these guys are well-known, while others are not:
- Jeremy Pruitt and Dave Aranda, Alabama and LSU defensive coordinators
- Herb Hand and Tim Horton, Auburn offensive line and special teams coaches
- Tosh Lupoi, Alabama co-defensive coordinator/outside linebackers coach
- Travaris Robinson, South Carolina defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach.
- Chris Rumph, Florida defensive coordinator
- Mel Tucker, Georgia defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach
- Bryan McClendon, South Carolina co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach
- Brad Davis, Florida offensive line coach
- Darin Hinshaw, Kentucky co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- Chris Marve, Vanderbilt inside linebackers coach
- Jason Jones, Ole Miss co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach
- Corey Raymond, LSU defensive backs coach
- Brett Elliott, Mississippi State quarterbacks coach
The first two names — Pruitt and Aranda — have proven their ability to coach defenses. It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see either of these guys with a head coaching job in the near future.
As for some of the other names, if you simply look at the positions they coach and notice the on-field production at those positions, you can see why they made Football Scoop’s cut.
