According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Alabama DB Cyrus Jones is reportedly back with the Patriots, signing a two-year deal with his former team.
Jones was recently on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad, but now the Patriots decided they needed his services as a punt returner.
During Sunday’s matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Patriots went without a punt returner after Patrick Chung left the game with a concussion.
The Patriots released Jones as one of the final roster cuts on Sept. 1 earlier this year. The former Alabama standout recorded just seven tackles in 10 games during his rookie season in 2016, and missed the 2017 season after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
The former second-round pick has struggled in coverage with the Patriots and also hasn’t been effective in the return game. He fumbled five times during his rookie season, but coach Bill Belichick decided to give him another shot to turn things around.
