Former Alabama defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry will wear a new number for the New Orleans Saints, as was presented on social media ahead of the season-opening matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
It’s a bit of an interesting move, considering McKinstry will be wearing to No. 14, not something you see all the time from defensive backs. McKinstry had previously worn No. 34 throughout the summer and in preseason contests.
Other former members of the Saints who have worn the No. 14 jersey include Andy Dalton, Mark Ingram, Travis Dural, Kawaan Baker and Tommylee Lewis.
McKinstry wore the No. 1 jersey with the Crimson Tide, but that number was not available with the Saints, because it was already taken by Alontae Taylor.

Heading into his rookie season, McKinstry will look to bring the same type of talent to the field for the Saints that he brought to Alabama, where he earned first-team All-SEC honors twice in 2022 and 2023.
The rookie finished out the final season of his college career with 27 combined tackle (19 solo) and 7 passes defended. He’ll get the first chance to show where he’s at where the NFL level is concerned this afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.
