Saivion Smith has bounced around between several teams over the past 3 seasons. But the former Alabama defensive back is getting another opportunity to try to stick with an NFL franchise.
On Thursday, Smith was signed to the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad, as he’ll look to eventually work his way onto their active roster. Smith hasn’t played in a game this season, and he was released by the Denver Broncos on Oct. 26.
Smith went undrafted in 2019, then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who went on to cut him before the start of that season. In 2020, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys, then went on to record 3 tackles in 6 games for them.
In May, Smith was waived by the Cowboys and claimed by the Seattle Seahawks. But his time in Seattle was short-lived, as he was released in July. He then ended up in Denver for the start of the 2021 season.
Smith, who played 1 season at Alabama in 2018, also spent some time in the now-defunct XFL in 2020.
