Former Alabama RB Mark Ingram makes change to back of jersey

When New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram II takes the field this fall, he’ll do so with a slightly altered jersey.
In years past, the former Alabama star (and 2009 Heisman winner) has sported “Ingram” on the back of his uniform, but this year, he’ll wear “Ingram II” across his back.
Ingram told ESPN.com that he’s glad he was finally able to make the switch two years after applying for it, especially since the move helps to remember his dad’s career:
“Well, that’s my name, for one,” explained Ingram, who is the son of former NFL standout receiver Mark Ingram. “My dad is Mark Ingram. I’m Mark Ingram II. And hopefully I’ll be blessed with a little boy and he’ll be the third.
“It’s just something that I’ve always been interested in doing, and I was finally able to do it.”
The reason the NFL took so long to approve the minor change is that the league said there were too many “Ingram” jerseys in circulation for sale to make the switch two years ago.
When Ingram II is on the field this year, he’ll join a star-studded backfield that consists of himself, Adrian Peterson and rookie standout Alvin Kamara out of Tennessee.
