Newly signed Seattle Seahawks running back Eddie Lacy is heading in the right direction according to Pro Football Talk‘s Darrin Gantt.

Lacey signed a contract with the Seahawks where he earns a bonus if his weight meets certain requirements. He weighed in last week, but no one had heard a peep if he passed or not.

Just yesterday, we found out the truth.

His head coach, Pete Carroll, alerted the media that he had indeed passed his weight inspection. In doing so, Lacy earned a lucrative $55,000 in bonuses.

In order to collect the rest of his bonuses, Lacy must weigh-in at 245 the rest of the remaining months during Seattle’s regular season games. There is chance he can earn $222,000 more if he is able to keep the weight off.

It seems weird that an NFL player would be rewarded for staying in shape, but there is a backstory. In Green Bay, he was often overweight, causing friction between him and the coaches. His new contract stimulants an added incentive to stay at a competitive weight level.

Carroll seems to be happy with Lacy’s progress so far.

“Eddie’s doing great,” Carroll said. “He hasn’t missed anything. He’s been very attentive to everything that we’re doing. He can catch the football well. We know he can run thick and heavy. You don’t get to see all of that right now. He’s in good shape. He’s done everything we’ve asked him. He’s done a great job.”
