After playing in Super Bowl 50 as a member of the Carolina Panthers, former Alabama star S Roman Harper is back where he began his NFL career.
Harper is once again a member of the New Orleans Saints, the team that drafted him in 2006. Harper spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Saints.
As he prepares for the 2016 season, Harper said in an AL.com article that he can’t wait to get on the field against former Auburn star Cam Newton and his old Carolina teammates:
“I can’t wait to go against these guys,” Harper said. “You know the trash talk is going to be at an all-time high. And may the best team win. It’s going to all be in great fun and competition. And that’s what we do. I told these kids earlier: Competition brings out the best in everybody. That’s all I’ve ever done is compete.”
Since both the Saints and Panthers are members of the NFC South division, Harper and Newton will get to square off against each other twice in 2016.
The first matchup is set for Oct. 16 in New Orleans. The teams will meet in a Thursday night game in Carolina on Nov. 17.
