“I am thankful for the opportunity to be coaching here at UAB and am excited to work with a great staff and a group of hungry players who are driven to win championships,” Gentry said in a release. “The success this program had in its first year back was truly remarkable and I am motivated to help elevate the expectations as a national contender year-in and year out.”
Gentry was huge for the Tide late in his career. The former Prattville High School (Alabama) standout was named Alabama’s 2011 Co-Defensive MVP.
Since graduating from Alabama in 2011, Gentry worked his way up the coaching ranks. He started off as a defensive analyst at Tennessee in 2012.
After a year in Knoxville, Gentry left to become a graduate assistant at Jacksonville State in 2013, and he earned a full-time role as the team’s outside linebackers and defensive ends coach the following season. The former Alabama defensive lineman worked on JSU’s staff through the 2017 season.
Gentry joined UAB as the team’s 10th and final on-field assistant.
