Former Alabama TE OJ Howard paid a visit to the Lone Star State this week, reportedly meeting with the Houston Texans and taking a physical with the team.

After a successful collegiate career at Alabama, the TE was ranked the top tight end of the 2017 NFL Draft. Indeed, he was selected No. 17 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and became only the second Alabama TE in history to be selected in the first round.

After suffering multiple foot and ankle injuries, Howard spent most of his rookie and sophomore NFL seasons on the injured reserve list. Howard played 14 games in 2019, recording 34 receptions for 459 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He would go on to win a Super Bowl ring with the team in 2020 before being placed on IR due to an Achilles tear.

Howard signed a 1-year contract with Buffalo in April, but was released during the team’s final preseason cuts. The TE was expected to sign with the Bengals this week. However, that plan was derailed when Cincinnati picked up fellow TE Devin Asiasi off waivers. As the Texans only have two tight ends, it’s possible fans could see Howard in the Lone Star State permanently.

Can he finally make a first-round impact if he does indeed sign with Houston?
