Former Alabama WR Amari Cooper ready to return to form for Oakland Raiders

In the first two years of his NFL career, Amari Cooper had more than 1,000 receiving yards and made the Pro Bowl each year.

Last season, though, he hit a slump, playing in only 14 games and recording only 680 yards (though he did have a career-high seven touchdown catches).

Now that the Oakland Raiders have hired Jon Gruden as their new coach, they want to get the former Alabama star back to form in 2018 (via the San Francisco Chronicle):

“It was cool,” Cooper said, referring to Gruden’s remarks earlier this offseason about making Cooper the focus of the offense. “Obviously, as a receiver, you want to go out there and make plays for your team to win. So for him to say that, it really meant a lot to me. I’m just ready to come out and work and prove that I deserve to have those opportunities.”

Cooper clearly has the talent to succeed, as he proved in his first two seasons. With Gruden and his staff on board this summer, Cooper will have to get up to speed in a new system.

However, as long as he can stay healthy, he should once again make plenty of big plays in the silver and black this fall.
