Former Alabama WR Jameson Williams will not face NFL discipline for the incident involving his carrying of an unlicensed gun.

The Detroit Free Press shared the news on Wednesday, quoting a league spokesperson that the matter is “closed.”

In October, Williams was involved in a traffic stop. Detroit Police found 2 guns in the car – 1 registered to Williams and 1 registered to Williams’ brother, the driver. Williams did not have a concealed carry license.

In November, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced that Williams would not be charged. Dashcam footage of the traffic stop showed that Williams made a point of his status with the Detroit Lions. Worthy said it did not factor into the decision not to charge the wide receiver.

We have looked at this case thoroughly and objectively. We did not consider that Mr. Williams is a Detroit professional athlete in our decision making. We have charged Detroit area athletes before and would not have hesitated to do so again if the facts of this case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt

Until Wednesday, it was unclear if the NFL would choose to discipline Williams after reviewing the details of the incident. Williams, though, can now put this matter behind him.

Williams completed his third professional season in 2024. It was a breakout year for the former Crimson Tide standout. Williams posted the best numbers of his career with 58 catches on 91 targets for 1,001 yards and 7 touchdowns. He played in 15 regular-season games for the Lions, making 11 starts.
